2017 Schlumberger Innovation Fellow Recipients

Three School of Engineering students from the Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Departments have been granted the 2017 Schlumberger Innovation Fellowship. The Schlumberger Innovation Fellows Program is designed for CS and EE MS and PhD students interested in focusing their core studies in the areas of Internet of Things, Big Data, Analytics and Machine Learning, Higher Performance Computing, User Experience and Human Computer Interaction, 3D Modeling and Data Visualization, Virtual Reality, Security, or Machine Learning – Deep Learning.

These emerging technology areas hold great promise across many industries to improve performance, lower costs, increase accuracy and provide new research and business insights.

2017 marks the first year of the Schlumberger Innovation Fellows program, which, in addition to fostering collaboration between Fellows, Stanford faculty, and members of the Schlumberger Software Technology Innovation Center (STIC), includes a $10,000 Fellowship award. The 2017 recipients are:

Zhengyuan Zhou is a PhD student in Electrical Engineering, co-advised by Nicholas Bambos and Peter Glynn. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Berkley. His research focuses on designing novel, scalable and robust power control algorithms that have provable theoretical guarantees for large wireless communications system under stochastic and imperfect environments.

Colleen Josephson is a first year PhD student in Electrical Engineering, advised by Sachin Katti. She holds a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge. Her research is in wireless digital communications, focused on low-power backscatter communication devices.

Chiraag Sumanth is a second year Masters student in Computer Science, specializing in Artificial Intelligence. Prior to Stanford, he obtained his Bachelors in Computer Science and Engineering from the PES Institute of Technology in Bangalore, India. His interests lie within the areas of Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Data Science.
