2009 Poster Sessions : Enabling Technology for On-Chip Networks

Student Name : George Michelogiannakis
Advisor : William Dally
Research Areas: Computer Systems
Abstract:
As more chip gets larger, networks-on-chip (NoCs) have been developed to provide a communication infrastructure between the many
source-destination pairs. We are developing enabling technology for NoCs by examining all the relevant layers and using the conclusions from one layer to make decisions at the other layers. Moreover, we are taking into consideration the on-chip environment when defining tradeoffs and which components are costly. This way, we have developed channels, buffers, switches, allocators, flow-control techniques and topologies for NoCs which are tied together and are able to provide improvements up to 10x compared to conventional NoCs using standard-cell circuits.

Bio:
George Michelogiannakis is a second year PhD student at the
Electrical Engineering department of Stanford University. His current research interests focus on computer architecture, chip multiprocessors and networks-on-chip. He is in prof. Dally's research group, working at the project investigating networks-on-chip. George attained his BSc and MSc degrees at the University of Crete, Greece.
