"Automatically Building a Component Library from Datasheets"

1:15pm

Abstract:

With cheap, accessible hardware platforms like Arduino and Raspberry Pi, prototyping new devices is no longer an exclusive privilege of experienced engineers. Now, a rich maker culture exists that allows amateurs and seasoned hackers alike to tackle problems and implement creative solutions. But, not every device can or should just be a cleverly packaged Arduino. Translating a rigged-together prototype into a standalone device is a daunting step that often impedes valuable ideas from becoming new products. What if we could use the embedded software that was written for the prototype to generate a standalone device? We outline the goals of software-defined hardware and explore a machine learning approach for automatically building a component library from PDF datasheets.
