"Keynote Speaker: Towards Data Commons"

Abstract:

We look forward to Data Commons, a Web of Data that provides wide access to the large amounts of data being created today about scientific, economic and behavioral phenomenon. Such a resource is vital for building the kind of sophisticated models required to better understand these complex systems. Data Commons is inspired by the World Wide Web. A number of simple but powerful design ideas have shaped the Web. Many of these design principles are applicable across a range of problems in computer science and engineering in general. In this talk, we discuss some of these ideas in the historical context in which they arose, with a particular emphasis on how they may guide our efforts in building Data Commons.
