Larry Alder : POMI 2020 Workshop

With the release of the national broadband plan this month by the FCC along with the explosive growth in wireless data usage, the subject of spectrum usage and allocation has is again a topic of current interest.. In this talk, we will examine some of they issues in spectrum reform. We will discuss Google’s activities in the spectrum arena and take a detailed look at opportunistic spectrum access technologies and in particular the TV whitespace spectrum.

Larry joined Google in 2005 is currently co-leader of Google’s Alternative Access Group. The group is responsible for number of product, policy and strategic investment activities promoting Internet access. Larry is a core team member for Google’s Municipal Wifi Network and Google's fiber to the home initiative. He has focused on a number of spectrum policy initiatives, including openness provisions in the 700MHz band and the opening up of TV white spaces for wireless Internet uses. Additionally, he is involved with several of Google’s strategic investments in the access area including WiFi, satellite, and 4G networking companies. Larry sits on the board of Joint Venture Silicon Valley. Prior to joining Google, he spent 10 years at ArrayComm, including the role of VP of Technology Development. Larry has a PhD in Engineering from Stanford University in the specialty of Control Theory.
