Guru Parulkar : POMI 2020 Workshop

OpenFlow Wireless is a platform built on OpenFlow to enable research and innovations in mobile wireless networking. The goal is to open up both Internet and Cellular infrastructures for innovations by providers and third parties to significantly reduce capex and opex and accelerate creation of interesting network services. In this talk I will provide an overview of these platforms for innovations and summarize progress.

Guru Parulkar is the Executive Director of the Clean Slate InternetDesign Program (cleanslate.stanford.edu) and Consulting Professor of EE at Stanford. Over 20 years in the networking field, Guru has worked in academia, startups, a large company, and a top tier venture capital firm.

Before coming to Stanford, Guru spent four years at National Science Foundation where he played a key role in creating programs such as Future Internet Design, FIND (www.nets-find.net) and GENI (www.geni.net). He received NSF Director's award for Program Management Excellence. Guru spent several years in Silicon Valley at high-tech startups prior to NSF. He co-founded Growth Networks and served as its CTO and Director. Growth Networks was acquired by Cisco Systems and provided key technologies for Cisco's flagship router product line, CRS. He also co-founded a multimedia wireless company called Sceos Technologies that has since evolved to be Ruckus Wireless. He also played a key role in founding the network security company Nevis Networks. He continues to serve as an advisor to high tech startups.

Prior to Silicon Valley, Guru was a Professor of Computer Science (1987-2001) and Director of Applied Research Laboratory (arl.wustl.edu) at Washington University in St. Louis where he led research and prototyping of high performance networking and multimedia systems.
